Line Shift
Color in sports has grown stagnant. Traditional color schemes are recycled time and again, leading to a lack of distinction between teams and disinterest among fans. Pride begins to wane. Cherished identities lose their uniqueness. To reinvigorate fan experience and more aptly coincide with the identity of a team’s city/town/state, a color shift is imperative. The National Hockey League recently expanded, adding two new teams with unique and bold color schemes. Is this a new age or just a bright spot in a dark room? Line Shift uses data-driven research of professional hockey leagues to demonstrate the repetitive nature of traditional color schemes and to point up how newer teams are getting it right.
